The new executive for 2016-2017 was installed at the Annual General Meeting on January 5, 2016. On February 12, the CWL led the Stations of the Cross using ‘Praying the Stations with Mary, the Mother of Jesus”. Leaders included Dianne Fox, Ann Kamann, Judy Cancade, Carol MacKenzie, Leona Smithson, Liz Shewchuk, Laura and Gerard Bohrn, and Patti Anderson.
On February 20, several members attended the Provincial Council’s Day of Celebration held at Corpus Christi Parish in St. Boniface Diocese. Deacon Gilles Urquhart spoke on the mission of the League and related it to the Year of Mercy. In the afternoon, the Provincial Council facilitated workshops on ‘S’mores’, the follow-up to ‘Catch the Fire’.
On the weekend of Feb. 27/28 we held the ‘Pornography Hurts Everyone’ Post Card Campaign. Our Council printed off 400 post cards and distributed most of them to parishioners that weekend.
During the mass on March 1, under the direction of Ann Kamann, Community Life Chair, members of the CWL led a Solidarity Service put out by Development and Peace. It was very moving as symbols of solidarity were presented and set before the altar.
On March 5, we participated in the annual World Day of Prayer held at St. Matthew’s Cathedral. Judy Cancade organized our participation and Ann Kamann and Carol MacKenzie participated as part of the programme. About 20 parishioners of St. Augustine’s, mostly CWL, were in attendance. On March 8, we presented an adapted version of the service, ably led by Judy Cancade, to the residents of Valleyview. 9 members and one husband assisted.
On Mar. 21, Carol MacKenzie and Sr. Therma sang in the Diocesan Choir for the Chrism Mass.
On Sat. Mar 26, President Arlene presented gifts to 7 neophytes, 4 RCIA and 3 RCIC.
President Arlene has presented prayer shawls to Denise Dyck, Lorna Aimoe, and Ursula Gerritzen.
We are happy to welcome 4 new members to our council: Julie De Roo, Claudette Smith, Rita Snoek, and Marguerite Jeffers who transferred to Brandon from Dauphin.
